Salary: National: £32,000 - £35,200 London: £36,000 - £39,600, An additional allowance may be available for candidates with exceptional skills & experience (currently £2,500)

About the role
Join us as an HEO Analyst and your primary responsibility will be to produce accurate and insightful information based on the sound analysis of data. This work will help to guide inspectors to investigate locally, and inform national inspection reports and the monitoring of the performance of police forces and fire and rescue services. We’re currently looking to recruit analysts with statistical and research skill sets – if your focus is on statistics, when completing analysis you’ll need to develop a solid understanding of the process of primary data collections, developing inferences, testing hypotheses and making recommendations. You’ll also need an understanding of data management and quality control, and when the analysis is complete, you’ll articulate the strengths and weaknesses of the information gathered, and communicate the findings to a range of audiences.
If you possess a research skill set, your work will develop depending on organisational needs, but is likely to include supporting our analytical contribution to police super-complaints, and overseeing the delivery of a programme of analytical work for all the complaints we receive. You could also focus on the evaluation of our inspection processes, or work with external academics to provide expert advice on the design and ethical considerations of new research projects.
This role would be suited to someone with a background in the use of data and analytical software, ideally including Excel and Power Bi – however, if you don’t have this experience, we’ll provide full training. An excellent organiser, planner and manager of your own work, you’ll be proactive and ready to take the initiative, and possess the ability to work under pressure while remaining focused even when things don’t go smoothly. And as a strong team player, you’ll be willing to support other team members and improve how things are done.
If your focus is on statistics, you’ll be experienced in the oral and written presentation of data and information, and possess the ability to identify key trends in data while adding value to analysis. Research specialists should have experience of using research methodologies and techniques, the ability to apply these to small scale research projects, and the skills to use qualitative and quantitative approaches to their work.
It would be an advantage if you’ve worked with police or fire service data in multi-disciplinary teams, and membership of GSG/GORS would also be desirable, but we can support you to become badged.
