About us

UCL is one of the world's leading universities and consistently appears in the top 20 global league tables. At its establishment in 1826 UCL was radical and responsive to the needs of society, and this ethos - that excellence should go together with enriching society - continues today.

UCL has embarked on an exciting 20-year vision - UCL 2034 - outlining its distinctive approach to research, learning and innovation.

We are developing a modern Planning Service for a world-class institution which has acknowledged the importance of better planning in its broadest sense, including data & insight, and excellence in implementation to its continued success.

There is currently a wider team of ~16 people who:

  • deliver the highest quality data and insight to drive better decision-making for UCL
  • co-ordinate and continuously improve the annual planning and risk management cycles
  • support implementation of UCL 2034
  • help UCL deliver its major projects (e.g. UCL East)
  • support institutional strategy/changes programmes (e.g. Transforming Our Professional Services).

Within the range of services that we need to develop, we have identified transformation of management information (MI) and insight as a top priority.

About the role

The Senior Data & Insight Analyst will be responsible for delivering the high-quality data and insights to inform UCL's decision-makers and stakeholders. You will lead on the development, maintenance and continuous improvement of a set of data visualisation products on our Tableau server. You will gain understanding of each of UCL's six major data domains and expertise in one of those domains. You will continually refine our existing portfolio of products and lead on the development of others, in consultation with our customers. Focused heavily on helping UCL staff make better decisions, you will harness our technology and your expertise as a data professional to deliver sector-leading analysis and insight to support UCL 2034. You will also work beyond the immediate team to leverage the skills of a wider community of analysts, working collaboratively together towards innovation and good practice.

About you

To be successful in this role you will be of graduate calibre with degree or equivalent level of experience gained in the work environment. You will be able to effectively use Management Information tools and visualisation technologies (e.g. Tableau, Qlik, Power BI). You will have an expert ability to interpret complex issues and communicate findings in simple, engaging and visual ways. You will be able to collaborate with stakeholders at all levels, drawing out briefs and managing workflow. You will also be a reliable team-member, able to manage your own area of work as well as contributing to the development and continuous improvement of team practices.
