Senior Data Insights Adviser (Data Analyst)

Salary: GBP 50,000

Closing date: 28th November

Contract type: Permanent

Wellcome is a global charitable foundation. We improve health for everyone by funding science, leading policy and advocacy campaigns, and building partnerships.

We plan to spend GBP16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate.

These challenges need the bold research our funding supports, but they won't be solved by science alone.

Where in Wellcome will I be working?

We are looking for a passionate Senior Data Insights Adviser to join our growing Data Insights team. You will be using your data & analytics skills to build data products and deliver robust insights to inform decision making at all levels of the organisation, alongside providing technical leadership and mentoring other members of the team.

You'll love working with data and tackling challenging problems. You will work with key stakeholders to translate their requirements into analytics solutions, supporting them in managing their programmes of work.

You will join an interdisciplinary team of data analysts, data visualisation specialists, product managers, qualitative researchers, software engineers, data engineers, data scientists and designers. We all work together in supporting Wellcome's mission to address worldwide health challenges.

What will I be doing?

In this role you will

  • Lead and contribute to projects, scoping and delivering high quality analysis and insights to help Wellcome gain a deeper understanding of its funding and organisational data

  • Act as a mentor and provide technical leadership to other members of the team

  • Work with a variety of large datasets and employ a range of analytical methods to solve complex problems

  • Consult with domain experts and key stakeholders to gather information, context and intelligence and translate their business problems into analytical solutions

  • Create reports and dashboards to support the dissemination of research, analysis and insights

  • Effectively and clearly communicate technical findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

To be successful in this role you will have

  • A numerate background and strong data analysis skills

  • Experience with all stages of the data analysis process: problem identification, data collection/storage, data investigation/exploratory analysis, data cleaning/manipulation, analysis/modelling/insights generation, visualisation/communication

  • Enthusiasm to continue to learn new skills, tools and techniques, and to share your knowledge with others in the team

  • Strong written and oral communication skills with ability to synthesise information, conveying key points clearly and concisely to technical and non-technical audiences

  • An understanding of the science (life/social), public health, innovation or policy sector, or an ability to get up to speed quickly on a breadth of science and research policy issues

Along with some of the following:

  • Strong knowledge of MS Excel

  • Data visualisation skills and tools e.g. Tableau

  • Programming skills in Python or R

  • Knowledge of statistical modelling, methods and techniques
