End User Computing and Infrastructure Operations

Salary Range £27,650.00 to £32,864.00 plus £1,750 location allowance and excellent benefits, including Civil Service pension

Based at Hanslope Park, near Milton Keynes. Free onsite parking, and free shuttle bus to and from the centre of Milton Keynes

You’re a hands-on engineer with an IT background. You understand how systems are supported. And you’re ready to do something that means more. That’s why you should take what you do to the next level in a role that’s your job, bigger.

The UK National Authority for Counter Eavesdropping (UK NACE) protects national security by providing Technical Security expertise to the UK government, friendly foreign governments and the critical national infrastructure (CNI). We also provide leadership for the technical security profession across government. In the past year we have played a key role at both the G7 and COP26 summits, enabling ministers and senior officials to negotiate effectively whilst away from Whitehall. UK NACE is part of FCDO Services and works in partnership with the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office to protect our critical assets in Embassies overseas.

Enhance our unique work

Whether you join us in End User Computing or Infrastructure Operations, you’ll be part of NACE – a small, friendly team with decades of experience in detecting and protecting against technical espionage attacks. Based at Hanslope Park four days a week, you’ll be solely focused on making sure that colleagues have the right IT tools and secret systems to keep doing this important work.

Day to day, you’ll help with ongoing enhancements and cyber security. You’ll create email accounts for new starters, assist with log-ons and resolve issues reported by UK NACE colleagues. You’ll also build laptops from scratch, adding passwords and dongle inscriptions to make devices secure. As well as making sure our existing systems comply to standards, you’ll project manage new system designs – like building a small server system for two or three online networks.

What we’re looking for

Ideally, you have an NVQ Level 3 qualification or equivalent experience. This could include completing an IT apprenticeship or working as a Helpdesk Analyst. Either way, you have a strong technical understanding of hardware, software and supporting networking systems, as well as associated security procedures. And you have a good knowledge of the ITIL environment.

You’re self-motivated and happy to come into the office. It’s also important that you really understand IT support. Linux knowledge and Microsoft qualifications are desirable, as is a sound knowledge of system design. But you don’t need to be familiar with any specific systems, as we create our own in-house – and we’ll give you on the job training to understand them.

What we’ll give you

Join us and you’ll be helping to protecting the nation’s interests at home and overseas. But what will we offer in return? As well as a competitive salary, generous holiday entitlement and Civil Service pension, we’ll support your development with training opportunities to help you advance your career with us. It’s a superb package of benefits that matches the vital nature of our work.

All our employees must be security cleared to the highest level, so you’ll need to undergo a comprehensive vetting process before joining. You’ll be able to start work with Security Check (SC) clearance, while Developed Vetting (DV) is a longer-term requirement for the role. You can find out more about vetting on our website.
