Solirius Consulting delivers technical consultancy and application delivery to our clients in order to solve real world problems and allow our clients to respond to an ever-changing technical landscape. We currently have over 250 consultants working with a variety of key clients from both the public and private sectors such as the Ministry of Justice, Department for Education, FCDOS, UEFA, International Olympic Committee and Mercedes Benz; with plans to increase our client base further in the near future.

The Role:

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Software Engineering Practice, to build and develop our Data Engineering Capability.

Working with our Head of Software Engineering, and building upon our existing Data Engineering capability you will help us to develop a culture of best-practice, define the services we offer to our clients and grow the size of our Data Engineering team. The role requires an experienced Lead Data Engineer who has a background in consultancy and has the ability to work closely with internal stakeholders and clients to further develop our Data Engineer propositions, taking ownership of the strategy and growth and training of the team. We are looking for someone who has an entrepreneurial approach, and is interested in working with our senior management team on business development opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Defining and delivering the Data Engineer strategy
  • Advocating and evangelising Data Engineer capabilities, providing direction and influencing key stakeholders across our clients
  • Develop compelling services for our clients
  • Developing and scaling our organisational structure to support new services and clients
  • Assisting on business development opportunities, responding to client Invitations To Tender (ITTs)
  • Defining standards and patterns for Data Engineer capabilities and associated tooling
  • Establishing and directing the Data Engineering team that works across clients
Key Skills/Experience

Required Experience:

  • Substantial experience in data engineering
  • Experienced in leading a team of engineers, helping develop their skills and defining career paths
  • Ability to work with senior stakeholders and detailed technical specialists.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience of working with cloud infrastructure (Azure or AWS, GCP is beneficial)
  • SQL and relational databases (e.g. MS SQL/Azure SQL, PostgreSQL)
  • Data acquisition and development of data sets
  • Experience building and scaling ETL data pipelines
  • Improving data reliability, efficiency and quality
  • Preparing data for predictive and prescriptive modelling
  • Reporting tools (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI, Qlik)
  • GDPR and Government Service Standard
  • Passionate, motivated and enthusiastic about developing technology solutions for our clients
Beneficial Experience:
  • .Net, Python or other programming languages and tools
  • Deploying analytics programs, machine learning and statistical methods
  • Developing data architectures and aligning them with business needs
  • Data analysis (e.g. SQL Server Analysis Services)
  • Azure Data Factory
