Lead Analyst & Deputy Head of Open Source Unit
Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO)
Total Package: £43,300
Location: London
1 Year Fixed Term
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) works to protect the UK and advance our interests across the globe. Employing over 14,000 people in hundreds of countries, what we do is far-reaching and vitally important to the country’s prosperity. As part of our purpose, tackling disinformation in key areas around the world has never been more important. In particular, we need driven and skilled analysts to support information operations in Eastern Europe. Work with us to reduce the threat and impact of disinformation, take on unrivalled projects and gain invaluable experience in the process.
In this role, you will lead analysis within our new Open Source Unit at a time of rapid technological change. Based in London, this is a dynamic, pioneering team which strengthens the UK’s ability to detect and counter the threat of disinformation. The team’s analysis also informs UK and international policy. Through the role, you will work at the forefront of information operations, disinformation and misinformation campaigns.
You will line manage a team of innovative and high-performing analysts working on Eastern European disinformation issues, developing an in-depth knowledge of disinformation tactics, relevant technologies and potential vulnerabilities. You will be responsible for ensuring exceptional analytical output, and managing the workflow of the team effectively.
Beyond leading the team, you will bring our ways of working in line with cross-Government and Professional Head of Intelligence Assessment (PHIA) standards, and work with external research providers to incorporate new products into assessments. Crisis response forms a crucial part of the role, as you will be expected to react at pace to unfolding events while building our capabilities in the long term.
We need candidates with significant analytical and line management experience. You will also be able to develop insightful analytical reports to meet customer needs and deliver analytical products to tight deadlines. A good understanding of Russian regional politics is also important.
We offer flexible working alongside generous annual leave, a Civil Service pension, staff bonuses and recognition and an employee assistance programme.
You must be a British Citizen at the time of your application and passing security clearance is also a condition of your appointment.
Everyone at the FCDO is also encouraged to develop their own their skills and capabilities. With us, you will have access to support and resources from high quality providers as well as mentors and coaches. In terms of other benefits, we offer flexible working alongside generous annual leave, a Civil Service pension, staff bonuses and recognition, childcare support and an employee assistance programme.
Closing date: 29 March 2021.
