Ofgem works on behalf of energy consumers to ensure that every household and business in the UK can rely on a safe, affordable and environmentally sustainable energy supply.

What we do matters: making a difference to people’s lives now, and for generations to come. We offer a diverse range of flexible working career opportunities: roles that are stimulating and rewarding. And it’s important to us that we recruit from a wide range of professional and personal backgrounds – bringing different perspectives and experiences to our work.

This role is part of our Data Services team which is leading the modernisation of data management in Ofgem. The two main platforms in data services are an enterprise data hub and an externally facing data exchange that will revolutionise the way that Ofgem and its stakeholders report, manage and analyse data.

The team is made up of product leads, data scientists, software engineers, user researchers, QA testers, business and data analysts – and follows Agile methodologies that support collaboration and innovation in our work. In this role you will be responsible for the testing, validation and assurance of data pipelines, utilising automation tools and presenting solutions to subject matter experts to ensure they meet users’ needs. Working closely with colleagues, you’ll integrate test and behaviour driven development techniques into the data development lifecycle. As a senior member of the team and a leading member of Ofgem’s engineering community, you will be encouraged to support junior colleagues and help shape the objectives and direction of the team.

You should offer an excellent understanding of Data Quality Assurance practices and expertise in cloud environments on big data technologies, such as Hadoop clusters on Azure. We also expect that you will have extensive hands-on experience with Test Driven Development/Behaviour Driven Development within a data landscape. You’ll understand how to leverage open source tools to deliver test frameworks, with a preference to automate where possible and you should already be accustomed to delivering in an Agile, adaptive, multi-disciplinary environment.

This is a great opportunity to work on a unique product that will change the data landscape across the energy sector to meet goals such a net zero carbon emissions and lower energy prices for consumers.

Ofgem is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We embrace diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. All employment is decided on the basis of open and fair competition, merit and business need.

Ofgem can offer you a comprehensive benefits package, which includes:

  • Up to 30 days’ annual leave
  • Excellent training and development opportunities
  • The opportunity to join the Civil Service pension arrangements, which include a valuable range of benefits
  • Flexible working hours and family friendly policies
  • Subsidised gym
  • Interest free season ticket loan
  • Rental deposit scheme
  • Perkbox (staff discount scheme)
  • Employee Wellbeing Programme.

Closing date:  11.55 pm on Monday 19th October 2020.
